Contacts Cleaner App Reviews

There’s a learning curve...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been looking for a way to clean my contact list for years. I think I found a keeper. I was a victim of multiple email accounts and mobile phones that kept aggregating information and syncing contact information together, in an unorganized fashion. Using Contacts Cleaner I was able to clean my 4000+ contact list with relative ease. Be warned, it does have a very quick learning curve, so before you start changing everything read your options carefully. I also highly recommend that you save a backup of your contact list before you start, so you can always fall back on that version if things go wonky. I had to do that once before I fully understood the power of the app. My advice would be to go through and fix the easy ones where you can change multiple accounts with common rules. The app seperates all of the different errors by category, which is quite nice. Don’t be afraid to commit 2-3 hours to clean your account for the first time. Once it’s clean a simple scan once a month could keep you on track. I love how clean my contacts are now! Finally!!

BEWARE! Used to work, and there is NO support

I used to love this program. Worked well, but it stopped working (crashed on open) and there is ZERO support. The Customer support email provided is dead - my emails were returned as undeliverable and there is no other way of contacting. Unfortuante.

Very usefull apps

Very useful one!!!

Didn’t find my Contacts

Waiting for response from Support.

I have been looking for a long time for a program that will help me manage my contact list quickly and effectively. This the first on that gets the job dome. I highly reccomend it.

Version 1.7.3-May 31, 2016

Didn’t work at all!!!!

Does what it says it will

It founds lots of errors and duplicates. The automatic fixes it proposes for classes of problems could use some work. For example, I had dozens of contacts where there was no area code listed. I had to insert the area code into each one, instead of it asking if I wanted to use that area code for all of this type of error. All in all, worth the money.

Failed at Task

Stupid! Removed the “city” from all my contacts. 1200 useless contacts now. Support was NO help either.

WARNING !!

Think twice before using this app. It literally made my life a living hell. It messed up all my contacts and not theres no way to recover it.I’m asking for a refund

Complete Failure

This app did not notice the duplicate and triplicates in my “All My Contacts” folder, which has 100 cards in it, duplicates and triplicates included. Consequently, when I ran the scan it indicated there were no problems. Forget about contacting this company via either their “support" or their "contact us” links because you’ll get an email reply stating “recipient not found”. Ordering this app was a complete failure and waste of time and $. I strongly suggest that you not waste yours.

Pretty good but...

… there’s a preference you can set for a default area code (mine is 520) on phone numbers. This app wants to set ALL area codes to the default, not just numbers without area codes. So 234-4567 gets revised to (520) 234-4567 as expected but (814) 654-5432 gets revised to (520) 654-5432. I consider this a fatal bug. Attempts to contact customer support were returned as undeliverable. Denny

Meh

For what the use I got it wasn’t worth the $5. There was only one thing I let it do for me and otherwise used the analysis to guide my cleanup tasks, but only because it gave a little more information than the native app does and let me see things side by side more easily. In my use case, I keep duplicates of many contacts in a Gmail account I share with my partner. This app wanted to “delete the duplicates”. What really needed to happen is for the Contacts app to Link the duplicates between the two accounts. When I did that (select both, Cmd-Shift-L), this app stopped seeing them as duplicates. None of the other issues it identifies were issues I wanted it to “fix”. I have a number of single name contact entries; nothing to “fix”. It said phone numbers were poorly formmated, partially because I put “+1” at the beginning of U.S. numbers, I sometimes put spaces in the First Name field (Andy & Joan) etc. In reality, most of the problems it found were problems of its own making. Every “single name” error also produced “Shared Email” errors. Overall, not as helpful as I was hoping.

What a mess!

In spite of reading through the various options on how to correct problems this program identified and then correcting them one at a time, this program left duplicate contacts and deleted many contacts completely. I regret using this app and would not recommend to anyone.

Great app!

Contacts cleaner provides a painless way to keep your contacts under control. Very simple to use. Absolutely worth the money!

Very cathartic!

This program is so simple and powerful that I run it for fun. The first time, it found 480 errors, and made simple repairs of my data. Now my contacts are clean and normalized, and I feel good. Thank you Contact Cleaner!

worth the $ just buy it

way better than scanning all your contacts manually and it works great. Just buy it and save yourself a bunch of time/aggravation.

Lost almost all my contacts!!

I used it once and lost half of my contacts. DO NOT USE WITHOUT BACKING UP!!!!

Rock-solid support from the developer!

I’ve used Contacts Cleaner since 2010. It has saved hours of work scrubbing and formatting our 4000+ contacts. In the dark days of MobileMe, and even through some abortive attempts at syncing Google contacts back in the day, it has just WORKED. The team at Spanning Sync were gods when it came to synchronizing calendars, before Apple converted from sync services. Now, they run Spanning Backup cloud backup of your googlesphere, and we trust all our corporate Google Apps data to their care. Two thumbs up. (I’d give them more, but due to my species, I’ve hit my limit.)

Could use a lot of fixes

I think this app isn’t better than all those iOS apps that aims to do the same thing. It won’t let me choose “how" duplicates will merge, I can’t choose multiple contacts and merge them together, the resolutions are a lot of times not the ones I want, “reformat the name” doesn’t allow me to edit the reformat, doesn’t take into account that a lot of foreign names involve spaces in first names/only one name, etc. A long way to go to be easy to use.

A mac staple; could use some oomph for a desktop app.

In a mobile world, I’ve found plenty of iOS apps which and de-duplicate at about this price point or lower. This is a classic Mac staple software in years past. I would have prefered more oomph in a desktop app and a higher price point to match. Google map address validation and auto fill / corrections feature hello??? Basic single function app i’ve used once and not needed again, for serious contact management I’ve taked to the app COBOOK.
